District court did not abuse its discretion in issuing injunction barring defendant from altering copyrighted movies by stripping their content access protections and removing “objectionable” content, and then making the unauthorized, edited version available to its customers online.

The district court did not abuse its discretion in entering an injunction barring defendant from continuing with its business of obtaining authorized copies of copyrighted movies, stripping the content access protections from the movie, and then making the movie available to its customers online with certain objectionable content removed. The Family Movie Act allows a company to offer a means of stripping objectionable content from movies, but only from an authorized copy of the movie. VidAngel makes an unauthorized copy of the movie from an authorized copy and then strips objectionable content from the unauthorized copy, so it doesn’t fall within the statutory exemption.
