This sexual harassment/race discrimination in employment case was initially dismissed as untimely, but that disposition was ultimately reversed by the California Supreme Court.  On remand, the trial judge found plaintiff was the prevailing party and awarded plaintiff more than $500,000 in attorney fees.  Defendant appealed, then shortly before trial settled all other aspects of the case.  The trial court erred in deciding plaintiff was the prevailing party before trial, but the error was harmless because the settlement gave plaintiff some consideration and thus made her the prevailing party.  The hourly fee and 1.8 multiplier were within the reasonable range of the trial court’s discretion.  Defendant could not convince the court that plaintiff’s lawyers spent too much time on the case without revealing how much time his attorneys spent on it.
