Abinaya Prabakar is an Associate Attorney at Severson & Werson, specializing in the firm’s financial services department. With a comprehensive background in various legal fields, Abinaya brings a wealth of experience to her role, focusing on complex financial services matters, including banking operations, consumer finance, and regulatory compliance.
Prior to joining Severson & Werson, Abinaya gained extensive experience representing municipalities in civil rights cases, advocating for businesses in class actions related to unfair competition law, and supporting victims of nursing home negligence and abuse. She also has experience representing clients across the nation in immigration matters, including representation in asylum cases in California, New York, Oregon, Nebraska, and Illinois.
Abinaya earned her LL.M. in Alternative Dispute Resolution from the University of Southern California, where she developed her skills as a certified mediator. She has mediated a range of cases, including small claims, commercial disputes, and family law issues, demonstrating her proficiency in managing complex conflicts.
She earned her J.D. from Chapman University School of Law, where she developed her oral advocacy and writing skills through active involvement in the school’s Mock Trial, Moot Court, and Arbitration Competition teams. Additionally, Abinaya gained valuable practical experience from her participation in the Mediation Clinic, Immigration and Family Protection Clinic, and Juvenile Justice Mediation Clinic. As a founding board member of The Diversity and Social Justice Forum, she helped spearhead Chapman Law School’s first symposium on issues of social justice. She was also a board member of the law school’s Pacific American Law Students Association (APALSA).
Abinaya is admitted to the State Bar of California and to all federal courts in the state. She is also an active member in Orange County Bar Association, Orange County Women Lawyer Association, and the American Bar Association’s Business Law Section.
